I have an inteli7-7700K quad processor and an NVidia GTX 1080 graphics card and 32GB RAM. I am using an Oculus Rift. Perhaps that's the problem. I don't know but it is very frustrating and I wish someone would address the issue... Soon. If this gets corrected I will update my review..   My problem now is that the game has such a bad performance (even on the lowest grafik settings) that I wasn't even able to play threw the tutorial.
  I am talking about an estimated 3 FPS and it takes a while when you look around till the screen even loads.

About This Game

Leap into the world of magic, sorcery and the unknown in Unison Shift's A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk.
This is a Japanese modern fantasy adventure game/visual novel.
Featuring gorgeous artwork and great voice acting, the story unravels as you join the journey into the world of Ley-Line.



Koga Michiru is a newly enrolled first-year student at a academy with a notably large clock tower located deep in the mountains. Unfortunately, on his first day of teachings, he gets caught up in some sudden trouble and accidentally breaks an expensive-looking statue.

In order to compensate for the broken statue, the principal orders him and the boy who caused the incident to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”

When they arrive at the Bureau’s headquarters, a room situated in the academy’s enormous underground library, a girl is waiting for them there with an apathetic look on her face.

The girl informs the confused pair of the situation: Magic exists in this academy.

When the clock tower chimes, the “Realm of Night” appears, and merges with the school building. The Bureau’s job is to take care of the supernatural problems that arise. And so, Koga struggles to protect the school from troublesome magical items known as “Mists”…

Great Voice Acting, Great characters, Great Art Design and Great Story. There is really nothing to complain about. EXCEPT the poor Steam port. Steam overlay, playtime tracking and Textsigns are still buggy after a year. But they promised to use a new engine for the following games in the trilogy. I am looking forward to it.

Sadly quite overlooked with very few reviews.. A Clockwork Ley-Line is an awesome VN but with serious technical issues!

The story and setting are really interesting, especially for someone like me who plays mostly slice of life-ish VNs. Once you have started with reading you don\u2018t want to stop.
Each time a new Mist appears, means that something funny will happen.

Playtime<\/b>
Concerning the playtime, one guy states in his review that he needed only 3h to complete his first playthrough. I can only absolutely disagree to this, since I cleared the true end after around 20h<\/b>.
The two other routes are kind of short, it will take around additional 2-3h to complete them.

On a side note: Neko\u2018s route was very sweet and all, but the end\u2026 I didn\u2018t expected it to end like this, well, it escalated quickly :D Nevertheless it ended kind of abrupt.

Characters<\/b>
The characters are great, both main cast and side characters are very likeable.
Somehow Rito was the one who I like the most, closely followed by Ushio.

Voice Acting<\/b>
Voice acting is amazing, especially Ushio\u2018s voice and her pronunciation. Even if you only listen to her voice in the main menu, you will fall for her :D
The principles Seiyuu deserves also to be mentioned, I love her way to speak. She does a very good job!

Soundtrack<\/b>
The Soundtrack as a whole belongs to the better ones, there are some really beautiful tracks. For example \u201cCamellia\u201d gets very emotional as soon as the flute starts to play. \u201cA Visit To The Realm Of Night\u201d is also great.

After opening the BGM menu, I was surprised in a positive way. Each track has a small comment written by the composer. As for the menu\u2019s general appearance, it is well done.

OP\/ED<\/b>
Oh boy, the OP is cool as \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665, such a great song! I can say the same about the ED, it\u2019s a rearranged version of the OP and sounds amazing. Amazing isn't even the right word to describe the ED, it sounds more than amazing or beautiful.

Choices<\/b>
A good thing in this VN is the amount of choices you can make, some require you to think logically about the previous events. If you are good enough you will even unlock something ;)

Cgs<\/b>
The Cgs are beautifully drawn, in a nice art style. You can look at them in a gallery afterwards.

Bugs<\/b>
Sadly, this is the first VN where I have to write a bit more in this section.
Someone in the Steam forum said: \u201cIt seems that this game is being held together with duct tape\u201c<\/i>. This is the truth.

It all starts when you launch the game, you will notice that your steam playtime isn\u2018t being tracked. Well, luckily there is a workaround! This workaround may work BUT it leads to way more bugs.<\/b>

Such as nasty text errors. At the start and at the end of each sentence you will see a \u201eg\u201c and a \u201ej\u201c.
I thought "Okay, I can overlook it" until THAT happened. The game crashed twice at the same scene. So I had to undo the workaround, play a bit further and then redo the workaround. This happened multiple times and was annoying.

Another point of criticism is that new updates take forever, the support for this game seems to be almost non existent

All in all, the general impression of the game\u2018s technical state is kind of poor.<\/b>

Pricetag<\/b>
Considering its technical state 20\u20ac is a bit overpriced. I guess Ley-Line\u2019s discount price of 15\u20ac is acceptable.

Conclusion<\/b>
You get roughly 24h of play time, an interesting and captivating story, awesome voice acting and many more great things. As the first part of a trilogy, this game makes a good impression, so I will definitely buy the other two parts. I only hope that the following games won\u2019t be such a technical mess.. This is the first visual novel I've read from Unison Shift: Blossom. I'm happy to say that they impressed. For what is essentially a Visual Novel starting a trilogy, they did an exceptional job of wrapping everything up nicely, while still leaving more than enough to make you want more. The Borderline of Dusk first released in Japan in 2012, and was followed by the other two games, "A Clockwork Ley-Line: Daybreak of Remnants Shadow" in 2013, and "A Clockwork Ley-Line: Flowers Falling in the Morning Mist" in 2015. Now they're localising the entire trilogy into English.

I knew nothing about A Clockwork Ley-Line before entering this game. All I knew is that it was a new release, meant to start a trilogy. Even after I completed the game, I haven't looked into what the other games contain. But if they're even half as enjoyable as this one, then it will be one incredible series.

First off, I'm going to deal with the cons. One of the biggest problems with this game is the incredibly poor translation(?) they've done. For starters, on four different occassions, the text was still japanese. The main characters name swaps to being japanese for half the Ushio route end. Every textbox that has over three sentences is broken, and the percentage symbol wasn't a proper unicode character according to my version. I don't know if I broke something in my directory, or if the game really is that bugged normally, but the state of the game isn't great on a technical level. I had three crashes on the same scene because the backlog was broken too. Anyway, all of these are definitely problems, but the game is perfectly readable and understandable as is. Maybe in a future update the game will be in a better state.

Don't let the technical problems make this a miss for you though. It's arguably one of the best visual novels out there, and I don't understand why it isn't as revered as it should be. It does everything right. The story, characters, art, music... all of it is stellar.

Let's start with the story. Typical from the start. A new student goes to a school which they find out isn't normal. Cliche, yes, but it isn't badly done. The world remains interesting throughout the visual novel and every chapter highlights new and interesting parts of the story's universe. The truly well crafted part comes in Chapter 5. Every part of the story up until that point felt seperated, but just like classic plays of old, Act 5 brings it all to a satisfying conclusion. My only problems were with pacing problems at times, and the lack of presence with a few characters throughout the chapters (You'll know what I mean when you see it).

The characters are one of the strongest parts of this VN, and it has to be. To start a trilogy, you need a cast that will last three games and have a strong enough arc in all of them. And based off this game, they've hit it on the head. Every character is unique and interesting, though I felt that a few needed more presence throughout (namely Rito and Fuhito). My biggest problem comes with the routes. Only Ushio's felt like a proper conclusion to the story. Both Tsubaki and Neko's routes were just... empty.

Art is sensational. Great use of style, animation, and motion with the sprites. Some of those scenes were incredibly immersive. Though there were times when I felt the sprite didn't quite represent what they wanted the character to look like, and a few parts where the uniform wasn't what the character was wearing: but all in all, solid.

Anyways, a visual novel well worth your time if you're willing to start a unique, magic filled, Japanese Harry Potter-esque, VN trilogy.

My breakdown:

PROS:
+ Story. Solid, but riddled with cliches. Finishes really strongly, but has some problems overall.
+ Art. Amazing, but needed more variety.
+ Characters. Outstanding, though all but the true route were weak.
+ Soundtrack. Atmospheric and added to every scene it was in. Whilst the OP needed work in my opinion, the actually game music was really good, and the ending credits are some of the best I've ever seen (probably only surpassed by Angel Beats! to be honest).
+ Trilogy. More games with a great cast, and an awesome world. What's not to love?

CONS:
- Bugs and Issues. Ranted about this already. Several crashes, and weird text galore.
- Steam Problems. One of the weirdest parts of this entire VN is that steam didn't recognise it. It's a known issue, but it never registered that I was playing the game at all. In order to get the playtime I have on my account (for the trading cards), I had to freeze the launcher on my computer so that it would register the game existing. It's ridiculous. So my playtime is around 15-18 hours, not the 5 or so hours steam says I have.
- Paid Patch. Not the first game to do this, but the Steam Restoration Patch is not free. Whilst it is not necessary to play the game, and the steam price + patch = full price of the game, it's still a move I do not agree with.
- Weak Alternate Routes. Tsubaki and Neko's routes were underwhelming, leading to only one good route in the game.

  Well, where to start?
  
  Just buy it already. This game is fun, beutifully detailed and 10/10 in the fun scale.. I haven't played many tower defense games, but this was very entertaining. Cats are cute, and you can zoom in to get a close look at them as your towers are vaporizing them. Took around 11hrs for me to complete - the last level was quite a challenge.
  
  You play in god mode, and move the world around, and zoom in and out with the grip buttons. There are fixed towers for weapon placement which can be bought by using a laser pointer to select the tower and then chose the weapon. Plenty of different maps, each progressively more difficult and with more upgrade options. Once you've played through the missions, there are some survive-as-long-as-you can maps.. This game is Exactly what it should be. Really intuitive, comfortable and fun.
  
  I have a couple ideas for minor quality of life tweaks:
  Pointing at a tower shows it's range bubble.
  Possible bug for me at the end of the mission I have to hit the menu button to leave rather than click the Text to leave, assumed it should be a button. (Odyssey+ WMR). This game is Exactly what it should be. Really intuitive, comfortable and fun.

The ability to be first person on the ground, yet high up in the sky looking down is just a really really cool feeling. I've played sitting in a chair for hours it seems. The immersion is just amazing. Yes it's "expensive" for a VR game, but it's an actual game, and not just a demo. One of my favorites at this point. I realize I sound like a spambot, but I'm not. The game is relatively simple (so far at least) since you only have a few spots to actually place towers; unlike Defense Grid or other TDG where you can make your own maze and direct things. But maybe later levels will allow for that, not sure.
  
  Anyway I've wanted to refund quite a few of my VR purchases as I completed them in 10 minutes. This one I'm still playing and enjoying greatly.. Maybe the best tower defense game on vive. 10/10 ♥♥♥♥♥ Slaying Simulator

  The revenge time is now!. Great game, still havent beat it yet at the 9 hour mark. I'm usually not a big tower defence guy but i think this one is really well done. I play it on normal difficulty and i still have a hard time beating many of the levels. deciding what wepons and when to upgrade makes all the diffrence in the game. it is very strategic and i highly recommend. i havent tried skirmish mode yet but the campign has kept me very busy. well worth every penny

Story

It was said that the natural enemy of all living things
would be destroyed by the emissaries of night, the dark elves.

Think this tantalising strategy\/Tactical game was a challenge before, then try this map. Loaded with obstacles you must cross or go around to get to your target, with unlimited angles and corners for enemies to hide in or behind makes this a must-have for anyone ehose found their way through so far.
No-one could call this game is easy, and I'd call anyone out on it who does, but this one is a doozy. Okay, you only get one map but you aren't paying $4 as Stardock would have you pay, and you are getting better value (yes you get a sub-faction with the "Ashes...
map, but one already created in the forst "ashes..."). Think of the time it took to create this devlish masterpiece, test it out and tweak it some more and you have more than your money's worth.
Don't let this game die - support the Devs and crow about how you breezed though without a loss (and watch me call you out on it...hehe).
Keep the content coming, guys. There are still players looking for more challenges.

  WIN! I'm enjoying this game. The writing is amateur and non-serious, and I find myself smiling and even laughing out-loud when I read some of the dialog between the characters, so win for that. Not everything needs to be super-serious. I can tell there's a story in there, as the creators use classic, and cheesy, anime-style "internal dialogues" to heighten the drama surrounding certain characters and events.
  
  Combat feels FAST, most of the time. There are a few abilities, like "BIte", that have exhibit a delay I find undesirable. But those delayed-abilities are few. Did I mention lots of abilities? If you're familiar with the original Phantasy Star series, you'll enjoy the differentiation between "magic" and "techniques". Awesome spell-effects? Sort-of. Some are pretty "WOW", others are "meh", and some I find "funny". The names of the abilities are definitely tongue-in-cheek, and in a way I very much appreciate the willingness to digress from the standard "fire, ice, lightning" (but there is a lightning spell).
  
  The combat system is complex; attacks, techniques, magic, limit-breaks, formations, trust-charges, etc. I just got my first trust-charge and WHOA, freaking awesome. The creators definitely put effort into making combat fun and fast. I feel encouraged to spam my techniques and magic.
  
  The game is very, very friendly, too. Save anywhere. If your party wipes, you can retry the battle that you wiped on; hello, awesome?! If you win a battle, but lose one-or-more party-members, when the battle is over, those party-members are still alive, with 1 HP. THANK YOU!
  
  If you find a pentagram that heals you, you can use it endlessly, and walk around in its vicinity blowing\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665up with your magic and techniques. Did I mention auto-combat? Hello!
  
  Also, anime boobies.
  
  If you're a fan of the original FF-series, Phantasy Star, etc., and can get along with the non-serious dialogue, I think you'll enjoy Asdivine Hearts.. primera vez q veo un juego de rpg maker en 16:9.. A very good JRPG with challenging fights and interesting storyline. I originally played on normal mode, but I have to switch to easy just to rush the story line! One bad aspect of this game is the equipments. They are uninteresting and you need to keep upgrading them on a regular basis to go forward. Past your 3rd or 4th equipment upgrade, you will get boring with them. The items are quite nice. A few of them are quite helpful, but you most likely will never use 80% of them on your run. Its a decent old style rpg.. I have played this on both PC and Mobile. Its a great game, and the start of a series of games, Dios, Menace, and Cross are part of the series too.
  
  I have purchased a lot of Kemcos JRPGs on Android and would be willing to purchase again on steam.. felix the cat is a pretty cool dude, but unfortunately the game includes people who are not \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 cats which does tend to drag it down somewhat. 8 meowzers out of 10. I can't say alot for my history with Kemco, this being the second game of theirs that I've bought ("Crome Wolf" on mobile being the first), I gotta' say though: I'm quite impressed. With respect towards those who haven't played this game yet, I won't spoil the plot (essentially, the characters are escorting a "light deity" (in the form of a cat) to regain his\/her\/it's former power in order to defeat the "shadow deity"), but it seems pretty run of the mill for an rpg as far as plot goes. Where this game really shines (for me anyway) is the controller interface. I'm more of a console gamer (much to the chagrin of some of you here, I'm sure...), so I'm not too savvy with keybord and mouse controls (I'm getting used to them though the "Warhammer 40,000" series among others, however, so don't crucify me, if you would be so kind...) but fourtunately for myself, this game allows for the use of a controller. As far as the controller function and game mechanics go: they're decent, not perfect, but decent. I can't say they're "smooth" (traveling around the overworld is a bit akward), but at least I don't find myself stuck in walls or otherwise unable to move.
  
  As far as the animation goes, it's slightly better than what you would typically expect from an SNES or Genesis\/Megadrive title.
  
  All in all, This game has earned four and a half stars from me, and Kemco has earned a customer. For those with reservations on getting this game, I say: take a chance, you won't be disappointed (unless you're the one person who actually did write a negative review, they seemed pretty disappionted... "Art is subjective", I suppose...).. Asdivine Hearts looks like a charming reincarnation of the old 2D JRPGs from the 16\/32Bit era. It kind of reminds me of games like Lunar, Grandia and Phantasy Star. We've had quite a few games of this type released over the last few years, but as a true fan of the genre, I was a bit disappointed with many of them, since they felt a bit dull, as if being 2D JRPGs with turn-based battles and a semi-decent story was supposed to be enough to make them good games. I've only just begun playing Asdivine Hearts (1h+), so it might be just wishful thinking on my part, but I am getting a different, refreshing vibe from it, which I didn't get from other such recent games.
  
  As for the game itself, there's nothing really fancy about it for me to write about. The graphics are decent (anime style) and the music is fun to listen to. No voice-acting, though. Movement control is a little limited and awkward (I'm playing with a XBox360 controller), but otherwise, everything is straight-forward and intuitive. If you've ever played a JRPG before, you'll feel right at home. The battles are classic turn-based JRPG style. There seem to be plenty of skills and abilities, using a Rubix\/Jewels system, which is new to me, but seems flexible and easy enough to learn and use. More about that to come after I've played some more.
  
  The best part, so far, seems to be the story. It feels funny and interesting just enough to carry the game, without giving you the feeling that the developers tried too hard to make you laugh (a feeling I've been getting too often for my taste, recently). Also, I'm not sure if it means anything, but at least so far, this game has no achievements and no trading cards. At first I thought it was a disadvantage (a minor one, at that), but the more I thought about it, the more it felt like this game might be good enough on its own to keep me interested, regardless.
  
  Anyway, I've been bothering with a relatively long review, considering I've only been playing for an hour or so, because this game does feel different. I hope I can explain it better after I've played some more. If and when I do, I'll be sure to update this review.

  After moving farther along in the game (12 hours total), my impressions haven't changed much since my initial review.
  
  The akward control remains the only significant negative issue I have with this game. The story and characters seem to be decent, at the very least, as they keep me curious enough to continue playing. The battle system is very well balanced, as it manages to be simple and intuitive without getting too repetitive. The Jewels system sure adds a nice twist. What I like about it the most, is that it allows you to change jewels any time. It means that if, for example, you encounter a boss that uses poison attacks often, before the battle you can equip more poison resistence jewels on the expense of other things. It's surely a useful tactical advantage for those who choose to use it.
  
  This is a cute and simple JRPG. While not a masterpiece, it sure is fun to play!. I played the game back when it was released for the iphone, and i must say i really enjoyed the game so damn much, it may not have the best story line nor characters, but for a 9.99 game, it is indeed worth it; of course im a rpg fanboy since my very first game, and i must play every single rpg that comes out no matter the platform; when the game released for the pc i decided to play yet again, and i was happy when i discover that Microtransactions were removed or replaced actually.
  
  I recommend this game a 100%, is just to kill time, it wont take long to finish nor master; way too easy to learn the mechanics; the rubix system is easy to manage, dont pay attention to the guys that says that is useless or bad designed, they probably didn't try other builds, when they realized you have to be careful with the jewels you want for your Chart.
  
  Talking bout the music, well if you've been playing some Kemco games for a while, you already know that the music pretty much stays the same; same goes for dungeons, or well at least they have the same formula, but they are actually good.
  
  the only con for the game are the quests, the quests are the same over and over, kill X monsters in X area, and that goes forever.
  
  And of course THE GAME HAS GRINDING IN IT, IS A RPG for god sake ppl, if u keep listing grinding as a con, you clearly need to play other games jesus...
